SIM card without registration in Slovakia
I want to protect my privacy when communicating with people I do not yet know well, for example on a dating app. I do not want to give them my main phone number straight away. Is this a legitimate reason to use a separate SIM card, and what should I know before obtaining one?

Privacy when dating
Yes. If you prefer to keep your main number for family and close friends, you can use a separate SIM card when dating. This is a legitimate way to keep new personal contacts apart from your private circle.
When a conversation on a dating app moves to calls or text messages, you do not have to share the number you have used for years straight away. You can decide when you know each other well enough to share your everyday contact.
A number for new personal contacts
- Dating apps and first conversations. Calls and messages with someone you have just met can use a different number from the one your loved ones use.
- Online chats and social networks. If a conversation moves from a platform to the phone, a separate contact lets you keep your main number private.
- Interest groups and new acquaintances. You do not have to give your long-standing contact to everyone you have just met.
The benefit is being able to choose who receives each of your contact numbers. A separate number does not stop its recipient from sharing it further, so use care when giving it out.
Prepaid service, activation and registration differ
Prepaid describes a payment arrangement, activation starts a service and registration records the required information. A prepaid or already activated card does not, by itself, establish that no information is required for its use.
For example, O2 Voľnosť describes mandatory information for registration and activation. A Czech SIM does not itself mean communication without records either: O2 Czech Republic describes processing traffic and location data.
Choose a contact you can manage
Before obtaining a card, check calling and messaging options, service validity and the conditions for managing the number. When using messaging apps, also check which name, photograph and other details you show to new contacts.
